They
worked tirelessly and silently for a tree they call their own. Special
mentions have to go to artist Wang Ruo Bing (with yellow scarf; on
the extreme right), arboriculturist Derek Yap (grey shirt with two
white
lines), and especially researcher N. Sivasothi (in front row) who
held the
unpleasant role of being the accidental eye-witness to the illegal
felling
of the Hopea sangal tree. He was also responsible for the building-up
of
awareness of the tree and conservation through the Raffles Museum's
website Habitatnews and the local media. Nature Society (Singapore)
made equally important contributions in this respect too (See Dr.
