Narrower Road, Bigger Heart
6 Oct 2004 is a day of quiet celebration in the life of this rain tree in the obscure corner of Ang Mo Kio St 13.

Its throne on the pathment had been given a royal makeover, and widened by more than a foot at the expense of the road. The wet cement (pictured right) bear testimony to the extend of the widening. The tree had been lording over the pathment through the years, leaving little walking space for pedestrains (see archive picture and story). The wooden bridge that had been erected temporarily on the other side of the tree but it had sinced been dismantled.

This is indeed one rare instance where a road is narrowed and a tree spared. It is a gem for the record books, and an icon for a truly green and nature-caring society of the future, I hope.
