An artificial
beach will find no respite from the relentless sea. No sooner than
not, the newly laid sand will be washed away again. The beach will
recede. Another repair will be needed and another cost incurred.
Cost will, no doubt, escalate astronomically over the indefinite
future.
We have already a 10-kilometre stretch of sandy beaches at East
Coast Park requiring maintenance. Do we want to create more artificial
beaches to inflate the cost further? In view of the high cost, it
is also incumbent of all discerning citizens to ask for a public
account of the annual expenditure incurred by beach repair.
