| Development
of spa retreat in Mandai Unsound |
Dear
REACH Administrator,
I have written an essay (link below) expressing my grave concern about
the development of a spa retreat at Mandai.
Essay: Forest Science Crapped in Singapore
http://www.eart-h.com/text/mandai.htm
The decision to convert the designated 30ha secondary vegetation is
not rational at all. It has negated entirely the important life-supporting
(ecological) services that the vegetation provides for the adjacent
primary forest. The development, in effect, has not been based on
sound scientific knowledge and principles.
As presiding host to the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between
ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) and the Secretariat of the Convention
on Biological Diversity (SCBD), can Singapore truly hold its head
up to its partners as a genuine contender for capacity-building in
the conservation of biodiversity in South East Asia, when unsound
practices like this spa-development rules in our own backyard? I dare
say not.
Please assist by forwarding my essay (and the above) to the relevant
authorities. Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
Joseph Lai Tuck Kwong
