An
elusive Huntsman Spider (Sparassidae)
- a possible new record for Singapore? |
|
She
was found on a small secondary forest tree, Commersonia bartramia,
at the fringe of the mangrove at Khatib Bongsu on the 4 June 2004.
It had
a 4 to 5cm leg-spread. Aggressive fellow she was! She raised her 2nd
pair
of limbs towards my camera and stood her ground, having had the misfortune
of being chased by me for sometime prior. Initially, she played hide-and-seek,
switching from one surface of the leaf to the next with lightning
speed. (Photo below)
Her limbs were covered with short black spines. I have never seen
this
species before, and could find no matching description in Joseph K.H.

Here's something I saw two-and-a-half weeks later - Spider
Stompin' !
Please don't ever do that to real spiders!
