This message contains IMPORTANT & URGENT updates from Ria Tan! Please pass it on to your nature-loving friends! You may have heard in the news that the Singapore Underwater Federation (SUF) is embarking on a plan to build an artificial coral reef within the lagoon of Pulau Hantu. Ria Tan and friends are deeply concerned. They are alarmed by SUF's plan and the significant threat it will directly have on the lagoon-habitat which is richly endowed with marine life. Ria Tan has uploaded pages on her wildsingapore website to summarises some of the critical issues involved. See http://www.wildsingapore.com/places/hantunoah.htm Take a look at satellite photos of the island which shows that the lagoon where the proposed reef is to be 'built' is very shallow. She has also uploaded a series of pages which shows what can be seen in the various locations on Hantu. See http://www.wildsingapore.com/places/hantupix1.htm The reef flats throughout Hantu are truly alive and rich. We cannot allow them to be altered or disturbed in any way. And we certainly don't need an artificial coral reef to appreciate marine life out there! Guided walks are regularly organised by dedicated volunteers at Pulau Hantu's intertidal flats to educate the public on its marvellous marine life. Advertisements for such walks can be found in wildsingapore website. Have your say on marine conservation! Blue Water Volunteers invite you to speak up through their feedback channel. Thank you : ) |
