Green Grass of Home |
|
Imagine
you step out of your home one fine morning, and discover almost immediately
that all the grasses in your neighbourhood have somehow disappeared.
Imagine being greeted by the endless lines of trees standing on nothing
but bare soil as you sped pass them in your car, bus or train across
Singapore.
I can imagine the shock and commotion it would have aroused. Everywhere,
everyone would be talking about nothing except the disappearance of
the grasses. Just grass... grass... grass...
Imagine again that you woke up in bed suddenly and realised that it
was all but a bad dream. The grass would have looked greener than
green as you step out of the house that day. Your journey to school,
to work |
 |
| or
play, would have been refreshingly different. You would
have had a new and profound look at the grasses that greet
you at every
turn. |

Green Grass of Home takes stock of the importance grasses
have on our lives. The talk presents a refreshing look at the great
diversity and beauty of the grass species that can be found in the
rain forests, wetlands, open grasslands and seashores in Singapore,
and help explain the special structures grass is made up of, which
set it apart from other flowering plants. Welcome to the world of
grasses! |
