Rocks Pounded by Waves |
|
| These
slanting rocks are by no means short in
the days of old. They have been weathered down to size by the continuous
action of the sea pounding them everyday through the eons. They were
created by earth movements in the earth crust. First compressed and
folded up like wrinkles, they are then subjected to the abrasive action
of weathering and had their anticlines (top of the folds) eroded away,
leaving the layered folds 'topless'. Further weathering ensure that
the softer layers are eroded much faster than the harder ones. This
leaves strange-looking furrows or 'drains' where softer layers have
disappeared. This type of formation can be found at Rimau
Point. Now...who say Physical Geography is boring, huh? : ) |
