Ficus superba - the magnificent figs of St John Island
Consisting over 800 species distributed throughout the tropics and warm regions of the sub-tropics, figs rule as an all-important keystone plant community in the forest because of the constant supply of fig-food they provide for animals such as birds, gibbons, bats, squirrels and ants, etc. The beautiful and succulent figs (photo below) belong to the giant fig trees, Ficus superba, of St John island (Singapore). Moraceae is also the family to which the tempinis tree belongs.
