The Five-dollar Tree
The native Tembusu tree, which is depicted on the back of our Singapore fiive dollar bill, belongs to the family Loganiaceae. Look for this heritage tree in the Singapore Botanic Gardens and see the large cavity in her trunk. As you can see, even a hole-in-a-trunk is no obstacle to growth; in fact, it is quite natural for old trees to be hollow. There is no excuse for chopping a tree down for having one.
