The healthy existence of the Buffy Fish Owl in Sentosa
was confirmed yet again by Angie Ng Ban Cheong on the
31 Jan 2007 at about 2pm.

She chanced upon it while hiking through the forest which has been slated for felling by the Integrated Resort Project (IR). [See map]

It was found perched on the branch of a large Dracaena maingayi tree.

The Buffy Fish Owl
(Ketupa ketupu), considered the rarest of the resident owls in Singapore, was first sighted by Mr Yuri Averkiev in Sentosa in

June 2006.

According to ornithologist Subaraj Rajathurai, Averkiev's sighting was significant not only as a 'first' for Sentosa, but also, a first-ever record for the entire Southern-Island Group.

Angie Ng's timely sighting makes for another convincing argument for the conservation of the forest; not only as a green lung, but also, as a precious habitat for animals too. In the meantime, a plea has been sent to the relevent agencies involved in the development of IR.
