Sand-binders
Borreria hispida (photo below) and Ipomoea pes-caprae ssp. brasiliensis
are some of the common carpet-forming creepers found on the sand dunes
behind beach fronts. Their wide-spreading runners and roots are found to be
most effective in protecting the sand from erosion by the wind. Two other
sand-binders - Vitex ovata and Spinifex littoreus - are common on the eastern
shores of the Malay Peninsular.
